The third season of Dexter is under way and I couldn't be happier. To be honest there really isn't much television out there worth watching right now and Dexter is a welcome change of pace.
For those of you who are not familiar with the show, let me get you up to speed. The idea of the show is simple. You have a Miami police unit. They are more like detectives. They are a different division of police officers from the uniformed type. In that way they are kind of like CSI. Only they are the cops. They are not the scene investigators. The one thing that makes them considerably different from the rest of the police units is Dexter Morgan. He is the central character of the show. He is their blood expert. He also happens to be a serial killer.
He isn't like your garden variety serial killer however, he is one of the good guys. Or is he? He sticks to a code of conduct. Although, he is haunted by the need to kill other human beings, he actually craves it, he tries to only kill bad guys. This draws you in. You will actually find yourself cheering for him most of the time. You also don't want him to get caught. This season has already taken on a couple great new twists and I can't wait to see how they turn our. I'm not going to get into too much detail as to what goes on because I don't want to spoil it for anyone just discovering the series or if you happen to be reading this in the future, I won't ruin the DVD experience. Let's just say, it should get very interesting.
All the episodes so far have been extremely interesting. The cast is great. They have David Zeyas and Lauren Velez, both of whom were on Oz and they were both great. I became even more interested in the show when I realized they were in the cast. The lead is played by Michael C. Hall. He is Dexter. He plays the role to perfection. The most interesting aspect of his character is how he is able to convey very little feeling whatsoever about anything. This is a significant part of his character that he struggles with throughout the series. You might remember Hall from Six Feet Under, another great series from HBO.
If you have the chance, get on board the Dexter band wagon. His family is outrageous, his sister is another foul-mouthed cop on the force who works along side of him and she is hysterical. His girlfriend is crazy hot. It is worth it to watch just for her. And his father, taught him everything he knows about being a killer and how to get away with it. By the way, his father was a cop too.
Don't miss the show. You'll be glad you watched Dexter. It is a million times better than most of the garbage on the tube these days.
