When Louis CK Comes to Town Buy a Ticket

When it comes to live entertainment there are few things that I really enjoy. The top of that list is great stand-up comedy. I'm not talking about stand-up comedy. I'm talking about great stand-up comedy. I say this because it is important to understand the difference.

In the early days of television people who were around then got to see the beginnings of great stand-up comedy. There were people like Bill Cosby, George Carlin, Mort Sahl, Nichols and May and more. These were masterful entertainers who were figuring out something amazing. They were able to convey humor through nothing more than their voices and paint hysterical pictures in the minds of their audiences. They were so good at it that people would fall over in hysterics from how great these individuals were.

The evolution of stand-up continued as time went by and eventually more and more people began to try it out. What ended up happening was that eventually everyone who ever told a joke or made a friend or family member laugh thought they were a comedian and they began to hit stages in clubs all across the English speaking world.

Born out of this rush to the stage by the masses who were hungry for attention, was the cable television era. It was there that we found countless shows like Caroline's and A&E's Evening at The Improv. were everyone and their mother were getting up and trying to be funny. Eventually, many of these cable shows disappeared. I like to believe it happened because most of the people showcased on those television programs were not comedians.

What has continued to happen to present day is the rush to the stage. Clubs exist all over the English speaking world and elsewhere, where people can jump up and try to make the masses laugh. Unfortunately, it makes it easier for those watching to not take stand-up too seriously. It becomes seen as a second class form of entertainment. It even seems to encourage disruption from the audiences a lot of the time.

Because there is so much garbage available today in the world of entertainment and stand-up comedy is no different, it is a real treat when a great performer comes around. Louis CK is one of those greats. He has had several television specials, he has appeared at numerous comedy festivals and he has written for many TV shows. Amongst his writing credits are some of the more unique television projects that have come along over the years including, The Chris Rock Show, The Late Late show with Conan O'Brien and his own Lucky Louis which aired for a short time.

CK has a no rules, no holds barred type of comedy. He explores all kinds of language and use of words. He attacks aspects of our culture that he considers ridiculous and leaves no stone unturned. In fact, there are times that he crawls down under that stone and rubs his face against it. I'm not completely sure what that means but his act is something to see.

Louis Ck is on tour now and if you have a chance, grab a ticket and go see him because he shouldn't be missed.
