What looks like a tremendously fun film, What Just Happened has Robert De Niro acting as a producer behind the scenes wrestling with Hollywood's elite.
It is based on Art Linson's book of the same name which chronicled the writer's stint as a producer. It is sure to be entertaining having snagged an all star cast including Sean Penn, John Turturro, Stanley Tucci and more.
It is interesting to note that Hollywood often doesn't like doing pictures or other types of production that put the entertainment world under scrutiny. It seemed for the longest time that the subject matter, though interesting in select circles, was shunned.
However times have changed. There seems to be more and more interest now to see the people working behind the curtain and manufacturing all the magic we see on the silver screen. Undoubtedly, comedy is a great vehicle to use in delivering this type of subject matter. It is important not to take this stuff too seriously. It is after all entertainment and something we have more than enough of today.
It will be interesting to see De Niro in this type of role alongside this cast as Robert DeNiro is usually quick to play the heavy, this time he is happy to be the target of the abuse. Robert DeNiro is always fun in a comedy and I am sure What Just Happened will be no exception.
