Prime Time Television for Women

It doesn't take a genius to see what has happened to the landscape of prime time television. Women are clearly the prime demographic being targeted. It isn't easy as a guy to sit down a watch any kind of prime time programming on television without immediately being hit with the big choices these days.

It would appear that the networks are going after women with shows like Lipstick Jungle, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty and the like. If you are a guy reading this and you like any of the shows I just listed, trust me, you are one of the women being targeted by prime time television.

It is OK recognizing that you are a woman even if you are a guy. Remember, this is only as far as television is concerned. This is not a commentary on anything else. If you are a guy and enjoy watching television at prime time you really don't have much of a choice. Clearly the networks have come to believe that only women are watching prime time programming anymore and us guys are more interested in sports and things that blow up.

Truth be told, they are not that far off. If you are a guy and frustrated by the selections you have been left with at prime time, take a moment and check out HBO, the Movie Network or whatever service you subscribe to. There is some great programming out there for you. Personally, I'm a big fan of Entourage, Curb your enthusiasm and Dexter. If it wasn't for cable production I'd never watch.

Then again, if you are a guy and prefer TLC and Jon and Kate plus 8, you may want to run down to your local convenience store. I hear there's a special on sanitary napkins this week.
